I don't know if you have heard the buzz going around of a new mini series Pure Flix and Affirm Originals has come out with but I encourage you to watch the trailer and see for yourself this gripping series called " Going Home" featuring Cynthia Geary as Charley Copeland, a compassionate hospice nurse who has conversations with God and has been called to lead those in the Hospice to their creator but before doing so lending her hands, ears and heart to their needs in terms of their spiritual and emotional circumstances or battles.
There is a warning when streaming this show, You must have a box of tissues at hand when you immerse yourself in these episodes. There has not been one episode I did not cry with. I was hesitant at first because I have lost many family members young and old and I did not want to think of them and cry more but this show is very comforting actually and I love when Charley speaks to the patients and makes them feel comfortable and they open up to her and she prays for them and gives them advice on what's really important before they go or to the family member of the patient. The most beautiful thing in the show is when the patient dies they either speak of the person who is coming for them to take them to Heaven or if they die with their eyes open you can see an imagery of who they saw before they leave the earth. I hold this to be true because my aunt before her passing saw my grandma, (her mom) coming for her.
At the end of the episodes, the deceased is carried on a bed to a waiting room or a hall where the nurses and staff are there with the family member to pay their last respects.
Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. – 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 (NIV)
Episode 5 called "Box Full of Letters" was a tough one to watch, the tears were all over my face. I guess it was harder because there was a teenager (Steph) who had a genetic disease like her father and wouldn't get to experience life to the fullest but is still a pillar of strength to her mom (Sadie) by writing her beautiful and encouraging letters before losing her mobility and preparing to meet her Heavenly Father also by making sure her mom takes care of herself and continues on to live life even though her daughter will no longer be there. ðŸ˜
The episode also included Katherine, Charley's old college roommate played by (Charisma Carpenter) who is in her last stages of cancer and is trying to deal with her family and hospice living and how her husband Alek (Christopher Wiehl) is trying to process his grief by keeping all of her plants alive.
I don't want to give too much of the storyline because there's a lot in this episode, including the beautifully written letters and how Charley and Katherine's relationship is evolving.
Going Home also has some funny moments too especially with the beautiful talented Cozi Zuehlsdorff who plays (Janey) a young hospice nurse who brightens up a room with her big smile while learning
the ropes and sees Charley as her mentor.
