Easter is nearing, on April 17, 2022, to be exact and Pure Flix has an array of Easter movies ready to be seen such as “The Passion of The Christ”, “The Penitent Thief” and more including the one I was able to see recently called “Risen”. This is a story about an ambitious Roman soldier Clavius (Joseph Finnes) who is loyal to his army of 25 years, an idol worshipper yet filled with doubt, and does not know who Jesus is; is on a mission sent by Pilate to track Jesus’s body after the crucifixion and resurrection but as he journeys on this road and encounters The Messiah himself, his life is forever transformed.
Although this movie has some fictional parts in it as well as some biblical truths, it still holds true on how we too in our doubt and in our sin can have a beautiful and supernatural encounter with the Lord that can lead to repentance and the turning away from idols and the sin and turn to God for his salvation and the eternal life he promises us just like Clavius in the movie.
This film is a must-see but it’s not intended for younger viewers, it has bloodshed with some gruesome scenes. I think Joseph Finnes played his role as Clavius the Roman military tribune very well, it was very believable, and seeing the actor portraying Jesus on the cross (Cliff Curtis) felt so painful, so real, and heartbreaking and it just made me lift my hands in gratitude to God, that he would send his son to die on the cross for us. He loves us that much and it did not stop there. He resurrected for us too so that we can live in eternity with him. That is why Easter to us believers in Christ is so glorious.
My heart also lept for joy while watching how he no longer was in a tomb but like the movie title, "Risen".
Hallelujah Jesus is alive and He’s coming soon. Seek Him and you shall find Him.

This fantastic streaming service does have Easter movies geared for younger children as well which is great because they too will be able to know the true meaning of Easter by watching educational and spiritually filled films that can be discussed as a family.
