Hello, my lovely readers,
Recently, I got my hair did at an Aveda Institute and Oh what a cool experience it was.
As soon as you walk through the doors, you see a barrage of products on shelves and two registers with friendly staff resembling a store.
You walk up to the register and give your name and the host gives you a waiver to sign then has you wait for your stylist. Then, they ask you if you want tea or water. I chose water and they gave me some in a small Dixie cup.
I was hoping for a small water bottle because I was really thirsty but no biggie. 🤷🏻♀️
As I waited, I saw a big room with stations reminding me of a backstage runway show.
Then my sweet master stylist Jenna comes for me and takes me into the large room with stations and has me seated to discuss my haircut and style.
After that, a cool instructor named Jeremy appears and starts working with Jenna to achieve my desired look.
Jenna is a senior student at the institute and will be graduating soon to work at an Aveda Salon.
Right after the consultation, Jenna takes me to another room to wash and condition my hair.
I ask her about my hair porosity and she says what I had thought , it’s medium porosity, medium density and I have fine hair but plenty of it.
She used a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner from a new line called Nutriplenish.
Shampoo: $35
Conditioner: $37
My thoughts: Hair felt soft and hydrated but I would only purchase on sale, too pricey in my book.
I had no idea it was sulfate-free either, I tend to use sulfates now and my hair is still healthy. Anyway, as I go back to my chair Jenna dusts the ends of my hair with shears and then Jeremy does my concave layers.
Then Jenna adds Aveda be Curly Curl Enhancer and the Nutriplenish Curl gelée.
This combo was pretty nice and I may purchase in travel size to try it again.
As Jenna defuses my hair with a Dyson dryer she finger coils a couple of my strands leaving it 70/80 percent dry.
At this point, I ask her what’s my hair type then she asks Jeremy and he looks on the chart and says 2b/3a.
I was happy to hear 3a because I knew I was a 2b so now I understood why my waves would look curlier as well.
Overall, I enjoyed my experience at the institute with the friendly and beautiful staff and the price was exceptional at $18.00
Since I selected a master stylist that was the price if not if would have cost me $12 bucks with a beginning student and instructor, which is pretty good too.
Oh yes, be sure to bring cash to tip your stylist. 💕
Here were my results with concave layers from short to long.
That day I was going to my husband’s cousin's sweet sixteen birthday party and I was happy and set.
Once my hair dried completely, I put a bit of dry shampoo at the roots for more volume.
Unfortunately, the humidity outside was bonkers so I couldn't really tame the fizz but it still held together.
I definitely recommend an Aveda Institute for your hair needs. They are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and again you are getting blessed with their services for a fraction of the cost of a normal salon while helping the students with their hands-on training and portfolio.
