It’s the fall season and ovens all across America are baking sweet and savory pies. Ok so, it really doesn’t have to be Fall to bake but since it is, and I have been experimenting with cake and pie recipes, this novice baker is thrilled with her baking strides in the kitchen.
I used to dislike baking because of all the burnt outcomes but now I’m really enjoying it even though it can be messy but wow, so rewarding. During this quarantine season I should say, I have learned (not mastered) on how to bake and decorate cakes, make cookies, cheesecakes and now pies.
YouTube and Google have helped a lot too!
Today, I wanted to share some recipes with you so you too can try. They are easy and you can add your own twist to them like I did. All you need besides the ingredients, is time, patience and some fun music.
The first Pie is a Guava Pie. This Bilingual Cuban recipe I found on YouTube and it was delicious and so easy to make.
Click the video for the steps:)
The Second one I tried for the first time is the classic Apple Pie.
The YouTube video used for this one added nutmeg in the recipe which I didn’t have so I substituted it for pumpkin spice and all I had was one can of apple filling but both were a hit in this pie along with the other ingredients mentioned.
This next one is not a pie but a Cherry Cheesecake I found on the Kraft website. Oh boy! This was so easy and so yummy.
I added a tablespoon of vanilla instead of their half teaspoon then I used a can of Cherry pie filling to dress it up. This Cheesecake was a hit at my parent’s anniversary dinner. Actually, I will be doing the same one but with strawberry filling for dad’s birthday coming up. I have never experimented with can fillings until now. Yes, you can do them from scratch but I’m sticking to the can ones until I learn to make them. The simple yet tasty recipe can be found here:

As for Pumpkin Pies I have that one under my belt. LOL
That recipe can be found on a McCormick Pumpkin Spice container, I just tweak it with a dash of cinnamon as well.
Now for the one that I thought I could never accomplish, the yummy comfort food of a pie, the Chicken Pot Pie.
Again, I added my own take by using air- fried seasoned chicken so there would be more flavor and a can of drained peas and carrots and everyone in the family loved it including my mom, my brother and the in laws.
Here’s the recipe for this yummy goodness: bunsinmyoven Homemade Chicken Pot Pie
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, I have never used a Pie plate before or ready-made pie dough but this 9.5-inch glass Pyrex plate bought at Walmart for $4.87 is terrific for pies.
Unfortunately, I didn’t have it when I did the Guava pie but a nonstick baking pan works just as well.
Well, I hope I inspired you to bake some easy pies this season if you are not as comfy with baking like I was. You can do it and it will be so rewarding especially when your friends and family gives you the great reviews. Thanksgiving is around the corner so get to baking. LOL
